Monday, November 16, 2009: General Meeting & Thanksgiving Donations!
Second General AAF Meeting Tomorrow
The next general AAF meeting is tomorrow, Tuesday, November 17th at 7pm in room 23 Psychology Building. This meeting will include an LA City Nights presentation that briefly recounts the AAF trip to LA from this semester as well as discusses how to "survive" as a newly graduated student living in that city and what the advertising environment is there.
This meeting will also be a great way to meet some of the committee leaders (EVPs and VPs) and learn about joining a committee if you haven't gotten involved yet. You still have a whole semester left to make a difference in a committee!
The free AAF t-shirts that all members will receive for paying their AAF dues will also be distributed tomorrow after the meeting. Can't wait to see you all there!
Community Outreach: Bring your donations for the Thanksgiving Baskets to the AAF Meeting
The Community Outreach Committee is going to make Thanksgiving Baskets for families in need throughout the community. If everyone just brings $1 (or at least some change!) to the General Meeting, they should have enough to purchase at least 2 baskets! Meghan, EVP Community Outreach, will have a couple of different cans around (probably one in the front & one with her by the back door as people walk out) collecting donations for the baskets. We all have some spare change...let's help out the community!

Community Outreach: Volunteering at the Crisis Nursery Holiday Store
We will be volunteering at the Crisis Nursery Holiday Store at the end of the semester. I know it's a while away, but I wanted to let everyone start signing up early since they need a lot of volunteers! Crisis Nursery is a center providing safety and comfort for local children who may have been subject to child abuse or neglect. During the holiday season they set up a store for the kids to buy $2-$8 presents for their families, and they need volunteers to help run the store and assist the kids.
For more info, check out their website: http://www.crisisnursery.net/special-events/holiday-shop.htm
The dates, times, and availability for volunteering are:
Saturday, December 12th
12:00-3:00 – need 20 volunteers
3:00-6:00 – need 20 volunteers
Sunday, December 13th
12:00-3:00 - need 20 volunteers
3:00-5:00 – need 20 volunteers
I know that this is the weekend before finals, but the only other available dates were during Thanksgiving break. Plus I figured we all need a little break from studying and what's better than going to help little kids buy cheap, tacky gifts?!
If you're interested in volunteering for one or multiple shifts, please e-mail us back with the date and time you'd like to be signed up for at aafphilanthropy@gmail.com. Also, if you have a car and would be willing to drive a carload to Lincoln Square in Urbana during your shift, PLEASE tell us that as well! I'd like to get back to them with all of our participants soon so that I can guarantee everyone spots, so flip ahead in your calendars and let us know if you can take out a few hours to come along! (and just remember...employers love to see students who give back to their community!)

Monday, November 2, 2009: Committee Meetings This Week!
First Digital Communications Meeting
The first Digital Communications Committee meeting will be this Wednesday, November 4 at 5:30pm. Plan on meeting outside of 114 Greg Hall and we will find a classroom from there. Hope to see you all there! Please email brittany.deterding@gmail.com if you have any questions or concerns!
Branding & PR Committees: Combined Meeting
The Branding & PR Committees are teaming up for a double meeting this Wednesday, November 4th at 7pm. We'll be meeting outside of the Comm Library and finding a classroom from there.
First Internal Communications Committee Meeting
The AAF chapter here at Illinois is the largest chapter in the nation--although this gives us major bragging rights, it also proposes some problems. With so many members, it's sometimes difficult to effectively communicate within the organization and "keep everyone on the same page" when it comes to opportunities for involvement. Our goal as the Internal Communications Committee is to alleviate any tension that arises from poor communication by implementing strategic methods to share information best. This involves learning the purposes of each committee and how we are all intertwined, then figuring out the best ways to reach the whole membership "from the inside out". This is the first year Internal Communications has ever been a committee at AAF Illinois, and I'd love for you to help me build a foundation for it.
The first meeting will be Thursday, November 5th at 7pm (for those of you who circled Internal Communications on your AAF application, this was the time on Doodle that worked best for the majority of you!). As of right now, we'll meet outside of the Comm Library. If I can (by some miracle) figure out how to reserve us a room, I'll email that out...but if you don't hear anything, the Comm Library it is! Hope to see you then =)

Sunday, November 1, 2009: Multicultural Food Tour
The 2009 Multicultural Food Tour is scheduled for November 4th, room TBA. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come enjoy a variety of dishes made by our Multicultural committee members. You are also more than welcome to bring your own special dish if you'd like. All you have to do is cook a dish that you would feel is part of your culture, a 2-4 serving size dish would be enough. If there are any questions, please email Christina Chen, cchen8614@gmail.com. Hope to see you there.
