Meeting Minutes

September 21, 2010 Meeting Recap

The meeting began with introductions from the two Brittanys (Brittany Herdman and Brittany Geegan). They began giving a background of what Community Outreach is and then began talking about what they wanted to do for the upcoming year.

The first big project will be during iHelp when all of AAF will be able to help Salt&Light, a non-profit organization that needs help sorting clothes and food. There will be more information soon, but keep October 16th, from 9am-2pm open if you’d like to help support this great cause!

The next project they talked about was Food for Folks. It will be held on November 7th in Chicago. For more information, email aafphilanthropy@gmail.com, for this rewarding experience.

After talking about those two upcoming events, the group discussed what new ways they could get more involved in volunteering on campus and within the community. A brainstorming session brought out the ideas of: Habitat for Humanity, More to do for Relay for Life, Start funding for building an AAF sponsored house, Make-a-Wish Foundation, St. Jude, Blood Drive, Clothing Drive, Shoe Drive, etc. If you have any other suggestions, please feel free to email aafphilanthropy@gmail.com. All suggestions are welcome!

After brainstorming, Brittany went over how helping Salt&Light throughout the year (once a month during weekdays and weekends) would be really beneficial and a good way to get involved.

March 11, 2010 Meeting Recap

IMPORTANT Events for the Week of 4/12:

We are still looking for Relay for Life team members so if anyone is interested in participating in the event on Friday, April 23rd please let us know!

Anyone already on the Relay for Life team or interested in joining: there is a MANDATORY meeting tomorrow (Monday 4/12) at 7:00 in Greg Hall (Meet in the main hall).

We will be canning outside of the bars Monday and Tuesday evenings from 10 pm – 2 am for the Relay Team.   It would be good to have at least two people at each bar, and we could do shifts from 10-12 and then 12-2.  We know it sucks to be out that late but the more people that sign up, the less time you’ll have to work!  If you are willing to work at least one hour during those times PLEASE reply to this e-mail with your cell phone number.  We will get back to you with the shifts tomorrow!

There will be a quick brainstorming/publicity meeting on Wednesday at 5:00.  If the weather is nice we’d like to do it outside on the quad (and eat freeze pops =), so meet outside on the east entrance of Greg Hall at 5:00.  We’d like to come up with a name for our charity picnic and come up with ways to publicize it.  It’s a very busy next couple weeks so we need to get on top of this asap!  Anyone who could come toss out a few ideas & take a role in this picnic will be GREATLY appreciated!

There is a Colleges Against Cancer fundraiser at Joes on Wednesday night.  Wristbands are $5 which includes free cover & $1 wells & drafts, and all $5 will go to our Relay for Life team!  We know it’s a busy week and you need to save your energy for Barndance, but if you and some friends want to come meet us for just a couple drinks it would really help out our team!  We will be collecting money and handing out wristbands during the Barndance collection times (M-W from 12:30-3 at the Communications Library) so you can get wristbands there!
