It’s October and you know what that means, it is officially spooky season! In honor of this time of the year, I would like to welcome you to my first of four installments on my review series of Fox and Mars Candy Brands Bite Size Horror films.

The first short-film review in this series is titled Floor 9.5, directed by Toby Meakins and written by Simon Allen. Each short-film is presented by a different Mars Candy Brand and the candy presenting this short-film is Skittles. Floor 9.5 follows an office worker leaving after hours and as she gets into the elevator, the elevator gets stuck, and she then finds herself on a mysterious floor between the ninth and tenth floors. Feel free to check out Floor 9.5 yourself by clicking here.

I’m going to start off by saying that Floor 9.5 was successful in appealing to the horror/thriller genres. It is not often that you get to see an advertisement that evokes the feeling of fear, unless it’s for a horror/thriller movie. It was creepy, it had the dark lighting, the classic ominous sound effects and eerie background music; essentially, it had all the typical parts of the genres.

It was also very cinematic in the way it was filmed and in terms of the plot. In this sense, it almost felt like watching a film trailer. Just like most horror/thriller films, it has you on the edge of your seat and anxiously waiting for that “something” to happen; whether it be a jumpscare or the flash of a shadowy figure across the room, you just know “something” is coming.

One thing I will say is that I was waiting for Skittles to make an appearance at some point, but *SPOILER ALERT* not a single reference to the Skittles candy was made during the short-film itself. This is one of the reasons why I would say it is not a successful advertisement in trying to get me to buy Skittles, and also why I mainly refer to it as a short-film rather than an advertisement.

Floor 9.5 was very well made and I don’t know about you, but it got me feeling pretty scared. It didn’t really have much to do with Skittles, but it was still a fun watch (that building should really get that elevator fixed, though).
